What is BDA / DAS, and does my building need it?

Recent fire-code updates require reliable first-responder radio inside buildings. Here's how to tell if yours needs a BDA / DAS.

Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) and Distributed Antenna System (DAS) installations have become a routine part of high-rise life-safety in South Florida. They exist for one reason: when a first responder enters your building, their radio has to work.

Modern building construction (concrete, low-E glass, deep parking levels, mechanical floors) degrades public-safety radio signal. The fire code requires that signal be restored where the AHJ measures it deficient.

If your building is a high-rise condo, hotel, hospital, large office, school, ALF, or government facility, you should expect a BDA / DAS evaluation as part of your compliance program. Contact your local AHJ for jurisdiction-specific guidance.
